A reworked 100% cotton button-up shirt created from carefully sourced thrifted garments. Distressed and burnt detailing is used to mimic the appearance of an aged document, creating irregular openings, scorched edges, and layered surfaces throughout the piece.

Handwritten script extends across the front, back, and sleeve, interrupted by the phrases “I’m Starting To Believe I Might Be God’s Favorite” and “Pray For Me.” The text is treated as a visual element, becoming part of the garment’s surface alongside the distressed detailing rather than acting as the sole focus of the design.

Combining traditional shirting with text-based artwork and distressed treatments, the piece transforms a familiar wardrobe staple into something more expressive and unexpected. Because each shirt is reworked by hand from a thrifted base garment, slight variations in distressing, fabric, and finish are a natural part of the process.

How it's made / curated

Each shirt begins as a thrifted 100% cotton button-up, carefully sourced by Brontë and selected for its quality and potential for transformation. By repurposing existing garments, each piece is given a second life.

In her Amsterdam atelier, the graphics and handwritten text are applied by hand using a combination of stencil and hand-painting techniques. The artwork is built up in layers across the front, back, and sleeves, becoming part of the garment’s overall composition.

Once the artwork is complete, sections of the shirt are carefully burnt and distressed by hand to create openings and scorched edges. These treatments are designed to mimic the appearance of aged paper, giving the garment its distinctive texture and character.

Because each piece is reworked by hand from a thrifted base garment, slight variations in fabric, distressing, and finish are a natural part of the process.
