MJ creates each piece by hand in her home studio in Amsterdam. Working in small batches allows her to stay closely involved with each stage of the process, from forming to finishing.

Using primarily the pottery wheel, she shapes and trims the clay, adding surface details such as carvings and handles before allowing each piece to dry. It is then fired in a kiln at 1000°C to become bisqueware. From there, each piece is glazed by hand, often using painting techniques and glaze experiments that give every piece its own character and surface variation. A final firing at 1220°C transforms it into durable stoneware.

MJ’s process is intentionally slow, hands-on, and intuitive, allowing each piece to develop its own expression. Painted or carved swirl lines are applied intuitively in the moment, capturing the interaction between artist and clay through each brushstroke or carving. Subtle variations and small imperfections are part of the making process, reflecting the human hand behind each object.
