An eye-catching sculptural vase featuring a carved pedestal stem and three hanging chains of varying lengths, with each link individually formed and attached by hand.

The interior is finished with a mosaic-like grid pattern in deep midnight blue tones, while painted lines on the exterior reveal hints of brown, pink, and blue.

Designed for flowers or ikebana arrangements, it functions as both a vessel and a decorative sculptural object.

How it's made / curated

MJ creates each piece by hand in her home studio in Amsterdam. Working in small batches allows her to stay closely involved with each stage of the process, from forming to finishing.

The top vessel is formed separately from the pedestal stem and trimmed on the pottery wheel, with surface details added before the two parts are assembled into a single structure. The hanging chains and small connecting elements are individually hand-built, with each link formed and attached during the leather-hard stage when the clay is most fragile.

Once assembled, the piece is dried slowly over weeks to prevent cracking before being bisque fired at 1000°C. A final firing at 1220°C transforms it into durable stoneware.

Completed over the course of several weeks, this piece reflects a slow, layered making process where form, balance, and detail are carefully built over time.

Care

This piece is made from high-fired stoneware and is technically dishwasher safe. However, due to its sculptural form and delicate hand-built chain elements, hand washing is strongly recommended.

Avoid pulling or putting strain on the chains and handle the piece with care during cleaning. Not intended for microwave use or thermal shock (sudden temperature changes).

Best displayed and used as a decorative vessel.
