Handmade ceramics By Cees & Hannah Founded in 2023 Based in Amsterdam

Their story

whiii studio was founded in 2023 in Amsterdam by Cees van der Vliet and Hanna Reede. During Hanna’s Fine Arts studies, she became fascinated by clay—its endless possibilities and the challenge of mastering it. When Hanna and Cees met, they discovered a shared passion for interior design, and whiii studio was soon born.

Today, the brand operates as a ceramic studio in Amsterdam’s De Pijp, transforming everyday interior objects into playful, functional, and long-lasting pieces. Defined by a balance of craftsmanship, color, and timeless design, whiii studio creates work that brightens interior spaces. Alongside their own collections, they develop custom pieces for brands and host ceramic workshops in their atelier in De Pijp.

“Each unique ceramic item connects craftsmanship, art, and sustainability in a way that makes it not only aesthetically pleasing but also useful.”

Craftsmanship

Every whiii studio piece is handmade using a slow and careful process. Each object is shaped on the pottery wheel or by hand, slow-dried, carefully refined and polished, and then fired in the kiln. Before a second firing, pieces are either dipped in glaze or entirely hand-painted. Hanna and Cees mix many of their own glazes and continuously experiment with new colors and finishes. From start to finish, the complete process takes approximately four to five weeks, resulting in durable ceramics made to last for generations.

"One of the reasons we love working with clay is its natural abundance. As a result, sustainability is an important part of our practice."

Sustainablity

Sustainability is central to the studio’s practice. One of the reasons they love working with clay is because it is a natural and abundant material. Leftover clay and production mistakes are reprocessed into new workable clay using their recycling machines, and firing is done in an energy-efficient kiln. The same considerations apply to the packaging process, with boxes often collected from local stores.
