Hwɛ’ is an original painting as part of her ongoing series Fleeting Moments, which explores expression and stillness through gesture.

A figure stands front-facing, immovable, one arm extended in a gesture of claiming space. The gaze is direct and calm. In this stillness and in the refusal to be moved, presence becomes an act of witnessing and being witnessed. Her hair rising above, symbols of power and divinity. Hwɛ is a gesture is that translates from Twi saying ‘Look’. I am here.

How it's made / curated

This original work is part of an earlier series of work, ‘Fleeting moments’, developed from her studio practice in Rotterdam. The work emerges through intuitive painting grounded in close object study and photographing, translating that looking into form, colour, and curve.
