Westweaves is a wearable art label based in Amsterdam, creating one-of-a-kind hand-painted pieces that merge craftsmanship, storytelling and individuality. Each garment or bag is designed to feel personal, expressive and lasting — blurring the line between fashion and art.
Her Story
Westweaves was founded in 2020 by Polly Hardman. She started the brand during her studies in textiles, where she specialised in weaving and developed experimental, unconventional pieces. Wanting to create something wearable, she began hand-painting vintage leather garments, combining art experimentation with fashion as part of her final university project. This quickly evolved into a brand when people began requesting custom jackets of their own.
The name comes from the north of England, where “west” can be slang for something strange or offbeat. Westweaves stands for individuality, craftsmanship, and emotional durability in a world of fast consumption. Each piece is designed to be valued, kept, and worn as an extension of personal expression.
"Why hang art when you can wear it?"
Craftsmanship
Westweaves creates one-of-a-kind hand-painted garments and bags that blur the line between fashion and art. Some pieces begin with vintage-sourced materials that already carry their own history, while others are newly made, both becoming canvases for transformation. Polly prioritizes a slow and intentional process – every piece is painted by hand, no prints, repetition or duplicates. Through popular demand, Westweaves has also introduced a made-to-order T-shirt range, translating the hand-painted artwork into a more accessible form.
“Westweaves was built on the idea that clothing can hold the same emotional value as art. You would never throw away a piece of art and when you hang a painting, you give it center stage.”
Sustainability
Sustainability is approached through longevity, craftsmanship and conscious production rather than mass consumption. Vintage-sourced materials are given a new life through hand-painting and transformation. Every piece is created in small quantities or as a one-of-one design, encouraging a slower and more intentional way of consuming fashion. By creating an emotional connection with the items, they are intended to be kept, repaired and valued for a long time.
Highlights
Westweaves was highlighted during Amsterdam Fashion Week as part of Creative Lab’s AFW25 Fashion Show. The brand also received a commission from Sky TV for custom Westweaves jackets, which were featured in the drama series The Rising. Another milestone was a feature in the Financial Times, in an article highlighting designers who incorporate illustration into their work.
