Her story

Shannen Studio is the artistic practice of self-taught painter and photographer Shannen van Dinther, based in The Hague. Her journey began unexpectedly at the end of 2023 as a form of healing. While recovering from burnout and depression, Shannen picked up a paintbrush and began experimenting intuitively, without pressure, discovering a powerful way to slow down, embrace her emotions, and reconnect with the present moment.

Over time, her work evolved from structured figurative art towards vibrant abstract expressionism and photography became an important part of her practice. Through both paint and lens, Shannen explores raw emotions, fleeting moods, and the quiet magic of everyday life—capturing experiences that often exist beyond words.

Craftsmanship

Shannen Studio creates original paintings and fine-art photography prints designed to bring presence and light into spaces. As a self-taught artist, Shannen’s practice is rooted in intuitive experimentation. She hand-stretches her own raw canvases, sometimes stitching separate pieces together to create a unique foundation. Working primarily with acrylics, she builds layered compositions using her hands alongside materials such as oil sticks, pastels, inks, and natural elements like sand and water from the North Sea.

Through color, texture, and depth, her paintings explore emotion, memory, and atmosphere. Alongside her painting practice, Shannen’s photography captures the quiet magic of everyday life. Every original work and print is produced with high-quality materials, designed to be enjoyed for years to come.

Sustainability

Shannen Studio approaches sustainability as a natural extension of an art practice inspired by the earth. This starts with thoughtful, low-impact choices, from hand-stretching raw canvases to incorporating natural materials such as sand and water from the North Sea.

All fine-art and photography prints are made-to-order to avoid waste, using water-based inks and sustainably sourced paper. Packaging is entirely plastic-free, and prints are produced as close to the collector as possible to reduce shipping emissions. Alongside these choices, Shannen donates a portion of every sale to Ecologi, supporting community-led reforestation and ecosystem restoration projects around the world.

Highlights

Since launching, Shannen Studio has expanded across borders, with original paintings now hanging in private collections throughout Europe. A major highlight includes collaborating with an Amsterdam-based clothing brand to feature three custom designs on a limited apparel collection.

Alongside participating in a shared exhibition in her hometown of The Hague, Shannen deeply enjoys working on a bespoke commission basis. Co-creating custom artworks tailored specifically to the energy and spaces of art lovers allows her to turn personal stories into unique visual realities, bridging the gap between artist and collector.
