Handmade ceramics By Danique de Bies Founded in 2025 Based in Amsterdam

Her story

Bira Ceramics was founded by art director and ceramicist Danique de Bies in 2025 in Amsterdam West. A year before, she began exploring clay through handbuilding and wheel-throwing courses. What started as a hobby quickly grew into a serious creative pursuit and eventually led to the launch of Bira Ceramics.

Driven by a deep love of interior design and the desire to make any house feel like home, Danique creates pieces from her studio. Pieces that she would proudly showcase in her own home, and share with others. Understated, tactile pieces designed to live naturally within different interiors and to be cherished for years to come.

“The true value of a piece lies in its ability to stand the test of time, to move with you, and become a proud part of your interior.”

Craftsmanship

Danique handcrafts timeless ceramic pieces, ranging from vases and cups to pitchers, pots, and other functional objects – each piece is designed to be both aesthetic and enduring. Working primarily on the wheel, she places craftsmanship and attention to detail at the centre of her practice. Rather than striving for factory-made perfection, Bira Ceramics embraces the subtle variations, textures, and character that make each piece unique.

"From the curve of a handle to the shape of a foot or the depth of a glaze, every element is carefully considered and refined by hand."

Sustainability

Rejecting fast-moving trends and seasonal consumption, Bira Ceramics focuses on creating objects designed to remain part of a home for years to come. This thoughtful approach extends to the making process itself: each piece is produced by hand in small batches, and clay is carefully recycled and reused, minimising waste and giving material a second life.
