Her story

Founded by Uma van der Vliet in Amsterdam in 2020, Vintage by Uma grew from a fascination with fashion as a form of identity, emotion, and self-expression. Believing that clothing carries meaning and emotion, Uma chose to work with what already exists rather than create new garments, carefully selecting vintage pieces with lasting quality and character.

In the early days, she primarily sold through Instagram, but over the past year she has hosted multiple pop-ups around Amsterdam, with a growing focus on building personal connections around the brand. Now working from her atelier near the Rokin, Uma continues to create intimate experiences around vintage fashion and to cultivate a community connected through style.

“I want secondhand fashion to feel welcoming and free of judgement. I try to create a safe space where people can explore style in their own way and feel at ease doing it.”

Curation

Vintage by Uma curates second-hand clothing ranging from everyday essentials to more distinctive statement pieces. Each garment is individually sourced for its quality, fabric, condition, construction, and relevance within a modern wardrobe. Before joining the collection, every piece is carefully cleaned, inspected, and prepared to ensure it feels considered, wearable, and easy to connect with.

"I’ve always been drawn to clothing not just as something you wear, but as something that carries emotion and meaning, which is why I work with what already exists."

Sustainability

By working exclusively with existing garments rather than producing new ones, Vintage by Uma embraces a naturally circular approach to fashion. Extending the life of clothing already in circulation helps reduce waste and encourages a more conscious way of consuming fashion.
