Handmade jewelry By Wies Mulder Founded in 2020 Based in Amsterdam

Her story

atelier OPRECHT was founded by Wies Mulder in Amsterdam in 2020. Although jewelry-making had been part of Wies’ life for many years — for instance, selling handmade pieces at local markets — she only launched the brand during the COVID period.

She used to make delicate necklaces with very small beads, but nowadays prefers creating bold statement pieces or personalized designs, often incorporating materials given to her by others and carrying their stories.

The name OPRECHT, meaning “honest” or “sincere” in Dutch, reflects the foundation of the brand. It stands for transparency in materials, conscious production, and a genuine connection with customers. Every piece tells a story, not only through its design but also through the origin of its materials.

"The aesthetic of atelier OPRECHT is playful, expressive, and full of character."

Craftsmanship

Every atelier OPRECHT piece is handmade by Wies, and its aesthetic is playful, expressive, and full of character. Designs often feature pearls, natural stones, and gold-toned details. Her designs, whether delicate staples or bold statement pieces, balance elegance and imperfection through irregular shapes, organic forms, and unexpected combinations.

"The balance between elegance and imperfection is important for me. I try to embrace irregular shapes, organic forms, and unexpected combinations!"

Sustainability

atelier OPRECHT approaches sustainability through the sourcing and reuse of materials. Wies personally searches markets, vintage shops, and thrift stores for old jewelry, beads, pearls, and found objects, giving them a new purpose. Sometimes only a single element is replaced, transforming an existing piece into something entirely different.

Alongside one-of-a-kind statement pieces, atelier OPRECHT also creates personalized designs using materials provided by customers, allowing existing objects to continue their story in a new form.

atelier OPRECHT invites FRIENDS

Wies also organises pop-up events titled ‘atelier OPRECHT invites FRIENDS’, bringing together creative makers and artists from her community. Hosted at venues including Midwest in De Baarsjes and Kunstlicht in Amsterdam Noord, these events create opportunities for collaboration, connection, and sharing creative work in person.
