Vanihila is a slow-fashion knitwear brand focused on sustainability and colorful, feminine expression. Their sculptural, lightweight knitwear pieces are made to connect people to their feminine qualities in a visually empowering way.
Her Story
Vanihila was founded by Nila ter Beek in Rotterdam in 2023. During her studies, she became aware of the negative environmental and humanitarian impact of the fashion industry, which inspired her to create a more conscious alternative through craftsmanship and design for feminine forms.
Through knitting, she found a way to create wearable pieces that are fully recyclable and often biodegradable. Now situated between Zeist and Utrecht, Vanihila has grown into a sustainable brand offering not only knitwear, but also garments made from linen, cotton, and silk. Together with her interns, Nila continues to build a pathway toward a more responsible and thoughtful future for fashion.
"Vanihila strives to inspire the wearer to embrace a free-spirited and sustainable life."
Craftsmanship
All pieces are designed and produced by Nila in her atelier in Utrecht. Vanihila focuses on ethereal, sculptural fashion and accessories that move organically with the body, embracing its curves regardless of gender, shape, or size. Many pieces are adjustable to different body types, enhancing their versatility and longevity.
Working with delicate natural fabrics such as wool, cotton, linen, and silk, Vanihila encourages a more attentive relationship with clothing, as if each piece were alive. As natural fibers vary in texture and dye baths, every garment is unique.
“Fashion is so much more powerful than most people think, it has social and environmental impact. Vanihila strives to expand that impact in a sustainable way.”
Sustainability
Vanihila builds its practice around sustainability at every stage. Nila avoids plastics wherever possible and carefully sources materials from deadstock, gifted fabrics, and retail leftovers. All pieces are produced in-house to keep production small and quality high, and every product is designed to be recyclable or biodegradable.
Collaborations
Over the past 3 years, Vanihila has been able to showcase collections during Milan, London, Paris and New York Fashion Week. Through these events her work has been featured in magazines like Elle and Harper’s Bazaar.
Vanihila has also worked with many talented musicians like Naaz, Noha Saré, Mahila and Yael Daila and created some beautiful custom looks. Soon Vanihila will be stocking selected pieces at HAAS Amsterdam, a concept store in Amsterdam.
