Marijn’s Hoedjes Enzo is an Amsterdam-based headwear brand, offering everything from signature balaclavas and beanies to fluffy statement hats. Each piece is carefully crocheted by hand and designed to be the finishing touch to any outfit.
Her Story
Marijn’s Hoedjes Enzo was founded by Marijn Stouthamer in 2022. Creative from a young age, Marijn has always loved drawing, painting, and making things by hand. After learning to crochet from her mother and grandmother, she began making hats for friends and family. As demand quickly grew, she launched Marijn’s Hoedjes Enzo to make her colorful, handmade headwear accessible to a wider audience.
As the brand grew primarily online, she missed a space to connect with other creators and her audience. Together with her partner in crime, Roos Koks, she founded The Creative Lab as a physical meeting space for this community. Over the past year, Marijn has been working on The Creative Lab alongside creating seasonal collections of headwear. Today, Marijn’s Hoedjes Enzo creates simple yet distinctive accessories designed to add character to any outfit.
"My little hats are designed to bring happiness, comfort, and a sense of excitement to your outfits".
Craftsmanship
Every Marijn’s Hoedjes Enzo piece is handmade by Marijn herself, with occasional help from her mother during especially busy periods. The brand is best known for its signature balaclava scarves, fluffy hats, and lightweight summer beanies.
Marijn works primarily with natural materials such as cotton, alpaca wool, mohair, and wool, creating accessories that are both comfortable and long-lasting. Each season, Marijn’s Hoedjes Enzo introduces new designs. Her winter pieces have an almost knitted quality: soft, fluffy, and exceptionally warm. During the warmer months, she focuses on breathable crochet structures that allow air to circulate, helping to keep the wearer cool!
"Slow fashion in its slowest form made available to you all, one stitch at a time.”
Sustainability
For Marijn’s Hoedjes Enzo, sustainability is an ongoing journey. Marijn works with a Norwegian yarn supplier that prioritises human rights, environmental responsibility, and animal welfare. While the raw materials are sourced outside Europe—which can result in a larger footprint and reduced traceability—this approach helps keep high-quality natural fibres accessible and affordable. Improving the traceability of her materials is something she hopes to work towards in the future.
Most hats are made to order, helping to prevent overproduction. Seasonal collections are produced in very limited quantities and consistently sell out, while yarn remnants are repurposed as filling for cushions and other projects to minimise waste. All packaging is recyclable and biodegradable, and every piece is crafted from natural fibres chosen for their durability and longevity. Designed to be worn and cherished for years, Marijn’s creations offer a thoughtful alternative to fast fashion.
