Her story

Manteiga Ceramics was founded by Marta Amador in 2024, driven by a passion for craftsmanship, material exploration, and creating meaningful objects. The project began with handmade ceramic pieces inspired by the beauty of simplicity and the imperfect forms found in nature. As the practice grew, it evolved beyond collections and custom commissions into a space for creativity and connection. Today, alongside her ceramic work, Marta hosts workshops at her Lisbon studio. Through these workshops, she invites people to explore their creativity through clay, making the practice more accessible, tactile, and communal.

“A moldar barro como quem barra manteiga” (Shaping clay like someone spreads butter)—soft, intuitive, and with care in every movement."

Craftsmanship

Each object, from vases and cups to decorative and functional pieces for the home, is individually handcrafted by Marta in Portugal, making every creation unique. Her work is shaped through a slow, hands-on process, from forming the clay to glazing and firing.

Rather than striving for uniformity, Manteiga Ceramics embraces the natural variations that emerge during the making process. Subtle differences in shape, texture, and finish are celebrated as part of each piece’s identity. Carefully selected materials ensure durability and quality, while preserving the tactile qualities that make the work feel both personal and timeless.

"Manteiga Ceramics comes to life, piece by piece, in its own time.”

Sustainability

Manteiga Ceramics approaches sustainability through a slow and intentional making process, where each piece is handcrafted individually and only when needed. By producing in small quantities and avoiding mass production, the brand naturally reduces waste and overproduction. Materials are carefully chosen for their quality, durability, and longevity, ensuring that each ceramic piece is made to be used and appreciated for years to come.
