Kelly Meiling is a sustainable knitwear brand based in Amsterdam. All garments are made from deadstock materials or upcycled items. Produced in-house and made to order, each piece is crafted for its wearer while minimising waste and overproduction.
Her Story
The brand was founded in 2023 by Amsterdam-based designer Kelly Meiling. During her studies in Fashion Design at ArtEZ University of the Arts she fell in love with machine knitting. After sourcing her own vintage knitting machines and graduating with a knitwear collection, she began creating one-of-a-kind garments from deadstock and upcycled materials.
Inspired by materials discovered during her travels, Kelly combines textures, patterns, and techniques to create unexpected knitwear pieces. She also works exclusively with existing materials and produces garments to order, embracing a conscious approach to production. The result is a collection of long-lasting pieces that express the wearer’s individuality while challenging conventional perceptions of knitwear.
“Through combining techniques and playing with contrast, I try to surprise the viewer and change the stereotypical associations they have with knitwear.”
Craftsmanship
Kelly Meiling creates lightweight knitted clothing and accessories, ranging from tops and dresses to bloomers and tights. Every garment and accessory is handmade by Kelly herself, allowing for a highly personal and hands-on approach to production.
Materials are carefully sourced from around the world, giving Kelly the opportunity to see and feel each fabric before incorporating it into her work. Because she works with unique, existing materials, every piece is one-of-a-kind and cannot be exactly replicated.
“I hope to inspire people to buy more consciously. There is already so much beauty existing in the world – there is no need to produce new materials.”
Sustainability
Sustainability is central to Kelly Meiling’s practice. She works exclusively with deadstock and upcycled materials, avoiding the production of new fabrics and reducing her contribution to the environmental impact of the fashion industry.
All pieces are made to order, helping to minimise waste and prevent overproduction. Kelly also values educating customers about materials and garment care, encouraging longer product lifespans and more conscious purchasing habits.
